A laser treatment for inflammatory acne--a
quick, gentle treatment that significantly clears skin in
the time it takes to have lunch--has been approved by the
FDA.
"The NLite-V, a pulsed dye laser, works by destroying the
bacteria that cause acne, helping the skin repair itself and
heal blemishes," explains Mauro C. Romita, MD, clinical
assistant professor of surgery at New York Medical College.
The procedure is preceded by a mild dermabrasion, which at
most can leave a slight redness to the skin. Patients can
return to work after the 20- to 30-minute treatment.
Foundation or moisturizer can be safely applied immediately
after the procedure.
